Creating a Hybrid Cloud environment through Private Network

The Private Network provides a private connection between your Dedicated Servers and Cloud environments without being connected to external networks or even the Internet. This type of connection is relatively easy to implement, secure and cost-effective.

How does Private Network work?

The Private Network offers a private network connection over a private isolated network. This data traffic is unmetered traffic and runs via a dedicated network interface port on your servers and over a single Virtual LAN or multiple Virtual LANs.

Evolution of Private Network

Companies have been providing Private Network solutions between Dedicated Servers for a few years now. More recently, with the advent of cloud computing and virtual layers becoming increasingly used, companies were requesting Private Networks between Dedicated Servers and Cloud environments. This inspired infrastructure providers to start offering this private connection too.

At Leaseweb, for example, we have been providing our customers with Private Network for Dedicated Servers for a few years now – here’s when we first announced fully automated Private Networking in our data centers

This year, we introduced Private Networking between Private Cloud and Dedicated ServersThis feature allows customers to connect their Virtual Private Servers (e.g. Apache Virtual Private Servers) to standard Dedicated Servers on the private network instantly. This type of hybrid setup offers a private network segregated from the public network – which keeps all data safe and secure.

Hybrid Cloud architecture with Private Network

Our Private Network feature allows customers to create a hybrid setup by combining Cloud and Dedicated Servers. How might this hybrid cloud environment look? See our diagram below.

Potential use cases

Some use cases of having Dedicated Servers and Virtual Private Servers working closely together include:

  1. Add scalability – scale up a Dedicated Server environment with temporary instances on your Virtual Private Server
  2. Improve processing capabilities – move resource heavy workloads (like a demanding database server) from a Virtual Private Server instance to a higher spec Dedicated Server
  3. Reduce storage costs – extend your Virtual Private Server with a Dedicated Storage Server for enabling large capacity cost-effective archive storage.
